What is the "Gospel"?

Sometimes we start using a word and it just becomes part of the scenery, just another word.  "Gospel" comes from a Greek word which means "good news" or "good tidings".  What news from 2,000 years ago can still be fresh and good today?

News Flash

All reporters give a little background to their news.  The background here is that all of humanity is looking for the answer to the "big question".  In all religions of the world, man attempts to secure favor with God through doing good things.  Simply put, we attempt to earn our way into Heaven by being good.  That is the human solution.  It is not God's way; it never was God's plan.  Being good is not God's standard for entrance into Heaven - perfection is!

Well, that sounds kind of bad, David . . .

Well, it is.  God tells us through the Bible that every one of us fails to meet up with God's standard (Romans 3:10,23).  In fact, while we not only can't earn our way into Heaven, we actually earn our way into Hell (Romans 6:23).

This isn't getting any better . . .

Help Is On The Way

Jesus Christ came in the fullness of time to fulfill God's plan.  In fact, while mankind rejected the creator of the world, Jesus Christ died for everyone that we might be able to live eternally in Heaven and avoid an eternity of torment in Hell (Romans 5:8).  In short, Jesus paid the penalty for all of us ... we just need to receive His free gift (Ephesians 2:8-9).

What is the catch?

There is no "catch".  We just need to understand that there is nothing we can do to gain entrance into Heaven; we need to understand our position before perfect God (we are on our way to Hell unless we change something) - We need to put our faith in Christ.  We need to turn away from the lives we have crafted for ourselves which are paved with our evil works (sins).  We need to turn to God.  The Bible puts it best: For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved (Romans 10:13).

How can I call on God?

Romans 10:9-10 gives us the answer:  That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved. For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation

Will you receive Jesus Christ today?
